UPDATED:

San Diego Oasis is inviting older adults to explore classes such as cardio drumming and soul line dancing at its two locations during its annual Fitness Palooza this Friday.

From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the nonprofit that is focused on continuing education for seniors will host a slate of free, 20-minute sessions showcasing various exercise classes offered at both the La Mesa and Rancho Bernardo locations.

The Rancho Bernardo location at 17170 Bernardo Center Drive will feature demonstrations of the center’s aerobic classes, Zumba Gold, Tai Chi Chuan, active total body conditioning and cardio drumming, a full-body exercise where participants use drums sticks to hit patterns on an exercise ball. There will also be health seminars focused on the physical challenges of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and tips on healthy aging.

At the La Mesa wellness center in Grossmont Center, seniors can participate in demonstrations focused on cardio drumming, T’ai Chi Chih, soul line dancing, better balance and a class focused on dance exercise. The nearby lifelong learning center, also located in the mall, will feature health seminars on decreasing stroke risks and how movement helps to increase circulation.

Both centers will also feature a health resource space where attendees can connect with Sharp HealthCare and United HealthCare throughout the day. Each person who attends will be entered into an opportunity drawing, and they’ll receive a second entry if they bring someone who has never been to San Diego Oasis.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that regular physical activity can help older adults reduce their risk of falling, reduce blood pressure, decrease anxiety symptoms and maintain healthy muscles, bones and ts.

Registration is not required to attend Fitness Palooza, but to see a full schedule of the day’s event and find out more information about San Diego Oasis, visit sandiegooasis.org, call (619) 881-6262, or email [email protected].
