Interstate 8 night closures in Alpine will be limited to Sunday through Thursday

The plan to close the eastbound lanes at Tavern Road initially was for seven nights a week, but motorists will now get a Friday and Saturday reprieve

UPDATED:

Rather than close seven nights a week as previously planned, Caltrans crews will limit night work on Interstate 8 at Tavern Road in Alpine to Sunday through Thursday for the next several weeks, the agency said Friday.

All eastbound lanes will be closed at the exit from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. except for Friday and Saturday nights. The closures are expected through mid-February.

Motorists will be detoured to the eastbound I-8 Tavern off-ramp then reenter the freeway using the eastbound I-8 Tavern on-ramp.

Crews will be repairing culverts and improving pavement on that section of the freeway.

“The modified work schedule will assist residents and employees of the area to reach their destination with minimal freeway interruptions,” Caltrans said in a statement.

The work schedule could also change due to weather or other factors, Caltrans said. For real-time traffic information visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
