Food drive: Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a drive-thru grocery collection from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 in its upper parking lot, 17010 Pomerado Road. Donations will go to families served by New Day Urban Ministries serving those living downtown. Needed are canned fruits, meats, meals, soups and vegetables; boxed cereal, oatmeal, snacks and pasta; jars (plastic preferred) of peanut butter, jelly and pasta sauces; and Cup-A-Noodles. To donate money, write checks to “New Day Urban Ministries.”

Save a life: St. Michael’s Catholic Church will host a San Diego Blood Bank blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 in the Holy Family Center, 15410 Pomerado Road in Poway. Breakfast fundraiser: In conjunction with the San Diego Blood Bank blood drive, St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus are holding a breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 in the Holy Family Center, 15410 Pomerado Road in Poway. There will be eggs and pancakes cooked to order, omelets, bacon, cinnamon rolls and more. Tickets are $50 for families (two adults and immediate children), $20 for adults and teens, $15 for seniors (62-plus), $10 for children (ages 5-12) and free for blood donors and children under age 5. Horse show: Poway Valley Riders Association is presenting a working equitation show starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 in the PVRA grounds, 14336 Tierra Bonita Road. Western and English riders will compete in morning dressage and then ride obstacles in the afternoon. Spectators and leashed dogs are welcome to attend for free.
