
The Midwest League’s player of the month for April is not slowing down.
Leo De Vries went 1-for-4 on Thursday in high Single-A Fort Wayne’s 3-1 loss at South Bench, extending his on-base streak to 14 games and his hitting streak to seven games.
The 18-year-old shortstop was named the circuit’s top hitter for April earlier in the week.
De Vries hit .306/.378/.625 and led the Midwest League in slugging (.625), OPS (1.122) and triples. He finished third in average (.306) and total bases (45) and was fifth in RBIs (19).
The youngest player in the league, De Vries’ monstrous April included hitting for the first cycle of his career during a five-hit, eight-RBI game.
For the season, De Vries is hitting .305/.396/.547 with four homers and 21 RBIs.
Catcher Brendan Durfee (.705 OPS) and third baseman Rosman Verdugo (.840 OPS) both had two hits on Thursday, with Verdugo doubling for Fort Wayne’s only extra-base hit.
Right-hander Jose Luis Reyes (0-3, 3.09 ERA) allowed two runs in six innings in the start.
Right-hander Tyson Neighbors (1.32 ERA) allowed a run in two innings in relief.
Fort Wayne is 17-13.

Storm 6, San Jose 4: LHP Boston Bateman (4.44 ERA) allowed four runs over 5⅔ innings in the start. He struck out two. RHP Adam Conrad (2-0, 0.00 ERA) struck out five over 3⅓ shutout innings in relief in the win. DH Kavares Tears (.701 OPS) drove in three runs on two hits and swiped his first base of the season. SS Ryan Jackson (.925 OPS) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks.
ROOKIE ACL PADRES (1-3)
Angels 12, Padres 2: RHP Winyer Chourio (0-1, 15.00 ERA) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk in three innings in the loss. 1B Victor Figueroa (1.396 OPS) doubled and tripled in four at-bats.
