Re “City must junk its dishonest trash initiative and start from scratch” (May 9): Thank you for reminding us that when city officials face no consequences for abysmal job performance, they will blithely stack one failure on top of another.

In the private sector, if your massive error affects your company’s value, and you respond with “My bad!” and “No biggie,” someone from HR will appear at your desk with an empty cardboard box, and your email will already have been deleted.

At City Hall, your mistake will be business as usual. You won’t learn anything from it, and you won’t have any incentive to improve.

Many of us warned in 2020 that a career politician with no real-world executive experience was not qualified to run a large metropolitan city. We expected Todd Gloria to stumble. But we never thought things would get this bad.
