
The Padres need power, and Trenton Brooks is at least showcasing power at Triple-A El Paso.
The Granite Hills High product hit two home runs in a second straight game, leading the Chihuahuas to a 6-4 win on Sunday over visiting Albuquerque.
The blasts pushed Brooks’ total to 14, tops in the system. He also singled in a three-hit game that lifted his batting line to .312/.417/.615 and drove in four runs, pushing that season total to a system-best 53.
Shortstop Mason McCoy (.921 OPS), who has been reinstated from the injured list and optioned to the minors, went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
Both center fielder Bryce Johnson (.864 OPS) and catcher Rodolfo Duran (.623 OPS) collected two hits.
Left-hander Wes Benjamin (3-4, 5.95 ERA) struck out nine and allowed a run on three hits and no walks in six innings in the win.
Right-hander Alek Jacob (13.50 ERA) struck out two in a scoreless inning, while right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez (10.80 ERA) allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning before walking off the field with a trainer with what has been termed an injury more in the biceps area of the arm.
El Paso is 33-30.
