Lauren J. Mapp was a reporter at The San Diego Union-Tribune covering family caregiving, elder care, Indigenous communities and East County. She is a 2019 graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in journalism and a minor in American Indian studies. She also has associate degrees in journalism, culinary arts and political science from San Diego Mesa College. Mapp previously worked as a freelance writer for North Coast Current and Times of San Diego, an intern at inewsource, a senior staff writer at The Daily Aztec, editor in chief at The Mesa Press and the arts editor at The City Times.
