Stephen Aldridge OBITUARY
Stephen Heywood Aldridge, known affectionately as “Stevo,” ed away peacefully after a long battle with prostate cancer at the age of 86 on May 31, 2025 at his home in Ocean Beach, San Diego. He was the beloved son of s and Humpy Aldridge.
A proud San Diego native–some would say a legend of Ocean Beach–Steve fully embodied the OB spirit. His truck license plate said it all: OBORIG.
Steve was a talented and popular musician whose band ‘Steve Aldridge and the
Holidays’ brought joy to countless weddings, reunions, and celebrations over the years. Alongside his wife Susi, he co-owned Just for the Halibut, a popular gift shop in Point Loma that thrived for over 20 years.
Fulfilling Susi’s dream of a lakeside cabin, they created the Black Dog Lodge on Lake Inez, Montana–a favorite getaway that, for more than three decades, became a magical gathering place for friends and family alike.
Steve was also a gifted athlete, especially ionate about golf, and never stopped seeking new adventures–even taking up hydro foiling in his 70s. In addition to his athleticism and musical talent, Steve was an accomplished artist, known for his stickman cartoon cards and beautiful metalwork creations.
More than anything, Steve was a devoted husband, loving son, proud father, superfun grandpa, favorite uncle, and a great brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Susi, and their six children: Kristin (Dustin), Brady (Yana), Debbie (Steve), Duke (Lori), Stacy, and Brian. He was adored by his ten grandchildren–Ella, Stephen, Stephanie, Jake, Phillip, Emma, Grace, Haley, Shaylin, and Genevieve–and deeply ired by the many young people he mentored over the years.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bob, sister-in-law Judy (pretty as picture), and his nephew Brad, along with many other beloved family and friends.
Steve lived a kind, vibrant, and full life. He touched many hearts and will be profoundly missed.
Special gratitude to Dr. Tyler Stewart and his nurse Danielle who called Stevo their MFP (most favorite patient) and his Sharp Hospice nurse, Emily, for her kind and expert care.
